Hair Color

With more than 400 colors to choose from, our stylists are able to select the perfect color that best suits you. Plus, all of the stylists at Terra Hair Design have completed colorist classes and have expertise in applying color using the latest techniques. For example, we use a Buffer Treatment to fix the hair’s pH balance after the color has been set. This prevents damage, improves the hair’s health, and helps the color to last longer. 

Cryell Anti-Aging Color

This color treatment is specially formulated for grey hair, which is generally harder to style because it has less moisture and elasticity. The Cryell Anti-Aging Color includes ingredients that help bring life back to aging hair. The result is hair that feels like younger hair – softer, less kinky and coarse, more lustrous and easier to care for. Cyrell Anti-Aging Color includes a serum that helps maintain the hair’s softness through weekly treatments at home.

Permanent Wave

●Perm / Creep Perm●

Whether you want to create gentle waves or a tighter curl, Terra Hair Design can give you the look you want. However, instead of following the traditional perm methodology of simply wrapping hair on perm rods and then applying perm solution, Terra Hair Design uses the more gentle “Creep Perm” method.

For the Creep Perm we start with perm solutions imported from Japan that are much less damaging than many American-made products – including an option for highly damaged hair. Once the hair is wrapped on the perm rods we do a special heat treatment that seals in the wave and helps prevent damage. The result is a beautiful and longer-lasting perm.

Hair Straigtening

●Japanese Straight Perm●

Terra Hair Design has over 25 years of experience with hair straightening, and is the only salon in San Diego that performs the Japanese Straight Perm using straightening solution imported from Japan.

Japanese Straight Perm is a “permanent” treatment that remains on your hair over time. This means that as your hair grows you will only need to retouch the new growth near your scalp – the previously treated portion will remain straight.

​

Because the Japanese Straight Perm causes a lot of damage to the hair, it normally is not appropriate for hair that has already received other chemical treatments, such as coloring. However, Terra Hair Design can apply a special solution that prevents further damage to the hair, making the Japanese Straight Perm an option for chemically-treated hair.

●Smoothing Straight Perm●

​

The Smoothing Straight Perm is recommended for people with frizzy or curly hair who just want to calm the hair without making it completely straight; people who want to relax naturally wavy hair; and people who want to “undo” curly perms.

​

Hair treated with the Smoothing Straight Perm will have more movement than with a Japanese Straight Perm, and (depending on the natural texture of the hair) will not be completely straight.

​

The Smoothing Straight Perm lasts for approximately 3 to 4 months and causes only minimal damage to the hair.

●Keratin Treatment●

​

A Keratin Treatment uses natural ingredients to coat the hair and make it straighter. Because it does not contain any chemicals, Keratin is a gentle treatment that is recommended for highly damaged hair.

Keratin Treatments generally last for 2 to 3 months and result in straighter, smoother and silkier hair.

Treatment

●Nano Steam Treatment●

The Nano Steam Treatment is for those whose hair is too frizzy or unruly to be controlled with blow-drying, or has suffered strong damage from perms, bleach, coloring, straightening, highlights or other chemical treatments.

The 4-step Nano Steam Treatment, which lasts for six weeks, penetrates deep into your hair to moisturize, smooth and protect. As a result, your hair will be smoother, softer, easier to care for, stronger, less frizzy and less dry.

Different Nano Steam Treatments are available for fine, normal and coarse hair. The first three steps of the treatment are completed in just 20 minutes at the salon. Our specialized Nano Steam Machine ensures that all aspects of the treatment penetrate all the way to the innermost layer of your hair. Step number four is done at home using the Home Care Kit that is included with this treatment. The four steps are:

1. The innermost layer of the hair shaft is moisturized and repaired.

2. Damage to the cuticle (the outermost layer of the hair shaft) is repaired.

3. The surface of the hair is coated to protect it from heat and ultraviolet rays.

Weekly deep treatment is applied at home to prolong the benefits of the Nano Steam Treatment. This treatment is applied to the hair like a conditioner, left on for 3 to 30 minutes (depending on the amount of damage the hair has suffered) and then rinsed off.

●Five Layer Color Treatment●

The Five Layer Color Treatment is for those with chemically-colored hair. It moisturizes the hair after coloring, helps keep the color from fading, and makes your next color treatment come out even more beautiful – all while keeping your hair’s natural volume.

 The five steps in the Five Layer Color Treatment are completed in just 10 minutes at the salon. The Five Layer Color Treatment also comes with a Home Care Kit that revives the salon treatment. The five steps are:

1. The hair’s cell membrane complex (CMC) – the key component of hair that retains moisture and is a passageway for hair color to reach deep into the hair – is opened up. This allows the rest of the treatment to better penetrate the hair.

2. The CMC of the hair cortex (the thickest layer of the hair shaft) is repaired, in order to help it retain moisture.

3. The CMC of the cuticle (the outermost layer of the hair shaft) is repaired, and the cuticle layers are sealed to lock moisture in.

4. The repairing ingredients are locked in.

5. The lipid coat on the hair’s surface is restored, to maximize shine and smoothness.

●Negative Ion Treatment●

The Negative Ion Treatment, which is for those with chemically-colored hair, can either be done as part of the Five Layer Color Treatment or as a stand-alone treatment. Also called a “color lock,” this five-minute treatment adds moisture and closes the hair cuticle to prevent the color from fading.

Head Spa

HEAD SPA

Terra Hair Design is proud to bring the Head Spa, a service that is extremely popular in Japan, to the San Diego market.

The Head Spa is a treatment for the scalp that consists of three separate spa treatments: Shiatsu Spa, Shampoo Spa and Water Spa. Together these three spas help revitalize the hair root, promote stronger hair growth, reduce hair loss, and slow scalp aging. The Head Spa is also used to treat scalp disorders, including problems with dry or itchy scalp.

Hair growth, hair loss prevention and anti-aging

The core of healthy hair and healthy hair growth is the overall health of your body.

Most healthy adults lose 50 to 100 hairs each day, which are then replaced by new hair growth. When a person’s hair starts to thin it is often a sign that these lost hairs are not being replaced; one of the main causes of this is clogged pores. When scalp oil clogs the pores it makes it difficult for hairs to reproduce.

The Head Spa helps prevent this problem through a deep cleansing that removes buildup from the scalp. When you take care of the scalp first, cell growth comes out more balanced. Because of this, the Head Spa also helps strengthen the roots of new hair growth.  

In addition, because the Shiatsu Spa aspect of the treatment uses massage and the stimulation of acupressure pressure points, the Head Spa also helps improve blood circulation in the scalp. This increased blood flow stimulates the cells so that they can produce stronger hair.

The 3 parts of the Head Spa treatment

Here’s what you can expect from each part of the Head Spa:

Shiatsu Spa – The Shiatsu Spa is done in a special spa room with dim lighting, relaxing music, and beautifully scented candles. During this treatment a special scalp cleansing oil is used to open the hair follicles, clean the scalp, and massage the more than 100 pressure points that you have on your head. These pressure points, in turn, affect the physical condition and health of the rest of your body.

2. In addition to contributing to the overall benefits of the Head Spa scalp treatment, the Shiatsu Spa also helps prevent and/or treat migraines, stiff neck, rhinitis, blurred vision, dizziness, insomnia, poor circulation, and the effects of stress.

Shampoo Spa – The Shampoo Spa cleans the hair root with a shampoo massage. It uses a special shampoo to remove everything that was cleaned from the scalp in the Shiatsu Spa, opens the pores, cleans the hair follicles and moisturizes the scalp and hair.

     Water Spa – During the Water Spa treatment the nozzles of a specialized machine from       Japan spray a mixture of carbonated water and purified water directly on the scalp. While the first two spas open the hair’s cuticle (the outermost layer of the hair shaft) and put moisture and missing nutrients back into the hair, this treatment serves to close the hair follicle in order to seal the moisture and nutrients in.

At Terra Hair Design customers have the option of doing the entire Head Spa treatment in 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour. The option chosen will determine the length of each treatment.
